Beetroot Cream: What It Does for Your Skin and How to Use It?

If you have only ever thought of beetroot as something you eat — in a salad, a juice, or a sabzi — you might be surprised to see it in a face cream. But beetroot has quietly earned a place in skincare too, and once you understand why, it makes a lot of sense.

Why beetroot, of all things?

Beetroot gets its deep red-purple colour from a group of natural pigments called betalains. These aren't just what make beetroot look the way it does — they're also antioxidants, which is a word worth explaining simply.

Every day, your skin is exposed to things like sun, pollution, and stress. These create tiny unstable molecules in your skin called free radicals, which can damage skin cells over time and are one of the reasons skin starts to look dull or tired. Antioxidants are compounds that help neutralise these free radicals — think of them as something that calms down the damage before it adds up. Beetroot is genuinely rich in this kind of antioxidant.

Beetroot also naturally contains vitamin C, and research on beetroot has looked at its role in supporting collagen — the protein in your skin that keeps it firm and bouncy. As you get older, your body naturally makes less collagen, which is part of why skin can start to look less plump over time.

Tattvam's Āruṇa – The Beetroot Cream

Tattvam's beetroot cream is called Āruṇa, named after the crimson glow of the sky just before sunrise.

What it's made to do, according to Tattvam: Āruṇa is made with cold-pressed beetroot and is described as rich in antioxidants. According to Tattvam, it is made to:

  • Wake up skin that looks dull or tired
  • Enhance your skin's natural flush or rosy tone
  • Support blood flow at the skin's surface (what skincare brands call "micro-circulation" simply, blood flow in the tiny vessels just under your skin)
  • Support your skin's natural collagen
  • Help protect skin from everyday damage caused by free radicals
  • Bring back a healthy-looking glow

A simple way to bring it into your routine

You don't need a complicated routine to use a cream like this well. A simple version could look like:

  1. Cleanse your face, so your skin is clean before anything else goes on.
  2. Apply Āruṇa  a generous amount to clean, dry skin
  3. Massage gently over the face and neck using slow, upward circular motions.
  4. Use it consistently — like most skincare, beetroot cream is something you'll notice the benefit of over days and weeks. Recommended to apply day and night for better results.

If you're introducing any new cream to your skin for the first time, it's a good idea to test a small amount on your inner arm first and wait a day, just to make sure your skin agrees with it — this is a sensible habit with any new skincare product, not specific to beetroot.
